Local lawyers see more interest as changes approach

With changes to federal bankruptcy laws set to take effect this fall, local bankruptcy lawyers are seeing an increase in people filing for and asking about bankruptcy.

Steve Klesner, a consumer bankruptcy lawyer with Johnston & Nathanson, P.L.C. in Iowa City, said he is counseling some people who are seriously considering bankruptcy to file before Oct. 17. That’s when the law goes into effect, and bankruptcy requirements are expected to become more stringent.
