Your credit report plays an important role before, during and after the bankruptcy process. We recommend you obtain a copy of your credit report before filling out your bankruptcy forms to make sure you don’t miss anything. You’ll also need the addresses, account numbers and balances owed to all of your creditors for your bankruptcy forms. It’s important to monitor your credit report after your bankruptcy is discharged to make sure your creditors are reporting everything correctly.
Under Federal law, you may have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies. To request your free annual credit report, you must go to www.annualcreditreport.com.
