Doubling Exemptions

Some states allow couples that file together to claim separate exemptions. For example, if a state allows a personal property exemption of $4,000 and the exemption is approved for doubling, the husband and wife can each take a $4,000 personal property exemption.

We have noted exemptions that are subject to doubling throughout the exemption lists on this site. Laws are subject to change. Consult an experienced bankruptcy attorney if you have any questions.
