I need help!

    i filed my bankruptcy a few months ago and just went to my hearing on aug 1...when i filed my dad was living, but he recently passed away, we sold his house 5 days after our hearing so i didnt turn this money i will be gettin in...i live in illinois and we sold the house for 85,000.00 after the bills are paid me and my sister will get about 30,000.00 a piece...right now i am living in the house and plan on using this money to get me and my children a place to live but im scared they will take this money for the bankruptcy??? can they do this?? my debts are way over the amount i will be getting...help me please if you know what i should do or what might happen...

    Jill, did you file Chapter 7 or 13?

    If you filed 7, the case is closed baby.  You should be in the clear.  BUT, spend some of that dough and talk to an attorney.  A couple hundred bucks right now could save you that $30,000 right?

    If you filed 13, I'm afraid you may have some difficulties.  Every state is different is this matter, so PLEASE, again talk with an attorney.  I'm sorry I couldn't precisly answer your questions.  Good luck!  :)
