Take a long hard look at what's going on in your financial life. If you're finding that the bills are getting away from you and you're experiencing certain warning signs, then maybe you should consider filing for bankruptcy. Bankruptcy can be used for getting a fresh start in life.

Warning Signs To Look Out For

You need to critically assess your financial situation and ask yourself some tough questions. Getting the answer will not be easy. You may have arrived at this point through a variety of situations.  Decrease of income whether through job loss or divorce, or just plain bad spending habits. Start out by examining the following scenarios:

  • Are you one of those who have seen their income drop because of the recession? It's a given that the bills will be that much harder to pay with a loss of job or a cut in pay. And it may be months before you see an increase in your pay if not longer. Look hard at your job situation to help make your decision.
  • Examine your spending habits. If you're not living within your means and are spending more than comes in every month, there's a problem. It's very easy to convince oneself that everything's under control, that big raise or bonus is around the corner and it will take care of all of the excess debt. Relying on a big payout is really playing a game of financial Russian roulette.
  • Do you find yourself paying bills instead of buying basic needs? Sacrificing the purchase of necessities in order to keep ahead of the debt is the worst thing you can do to yourself. Finding yourself at this point means it's past time to file.
  • You're finding yourself borrowing more and more from friends and family, and you have no savings. Do you know if you can pay them back? Family may help you longer than your friends with money, but even they may cut you off at some point. They may not be there to help in a financial emergency when you need them most. Topping things off is when you have no savings to fall back on if funds dry up.

Finding yourself stretched thin financially is a recipe for disaster. It's only a matter of time before you find yourself in trouble with your creditors. File for bankruptcy before the situation gets so bad that you'll be forced to file in order to gain relief.
