Congress has recognized that being on active duty can cause financial hardship for servicemembers. Income may decrease (especially if you are a member of the National Guard or a reservist and must leave a better paying job to serve on a tour), expenses often increase (such as childcare or housing costs), and not being home makes it difficult to respond to debt collectors, lawsuits, or foreclosure actions.
For these reasons, Congress has provided some special protections for military members when it comes to interest on debt, car repossessions, foreclosure, and more.
